Nokia singed a valuable 5G deal with three major Chinese operators
Nokia announced that it signed a 5G deal with three major Chinese carriers. The deal for 2020 is worth closely CNY15.7 billion which is around $2.2 billion. The 5G cooperation framework deals were signed with China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, but Nokia isn’t the only vendor. The Swedish Ericsson also managed to sign a deal with the mighty Chinese carrier trio, but the details were not disclosed. This is great news for Nokia that found itself in trouble lately because of the bad 5G chipset deal, but its end-to-end portfolio probably meats all the wishes of the three operators. It is a bit strange that Huawei wasn’t the major supplier there, but that Chinese networking company will probably be shipping some of its technology too.
Anyway, China’s three operators said that they are planning to do the largest deployment of 5G in the world, with close to 86000 base stations across the 50 cities. The plan is to end 2020 with more than 130000 base stations. GSMA Intelligence predicts that China will have over 460 million 5G subscribers by 2025, which is going to account for 36% of the world’s total number of 5G subscriptions.
