Nokia XR20 officially announced – the tougher and improved Nokia X20

Nokia Mobile announced a better, tougher and improved version of Nokia X20, current best from the 2021 announcements. If Nokia X20 is bringing 5G connectivity in the midrange class, XR20 should make it life long.

Nokia XR 20 isn’t feather light with its 248 grams, but the phone should be slipping proof thanks to its grippy 3D nanotextured rear cover. But, if it dies slip, you shouldn’t be afraid. The phones is built according to the military-grade certification (MIL-STD-810H) which guarantees that the device will withstand high drops from 1.8 meters on the (concrete) floor or survive being submerged in water for 30 minutes because it has IP68 rating.

Also, XR20 will be bringing Corning Gorilla Glass Victus glass protection for its display which should be usable with wet fingers and gloves, which is something not seen since Lumia days. Interestingly, Nokia Mobile is offering one year free screen replacement if you manage to break the screen during the first year after purchase.

To prove the toughness of the new Nokia XR20, Nokia Mobile asked Roberto Carlos, an ex football star and the man with the most powerful kick among footballers in the world, to drag the phone over a concrete playground and even try to recreate its famous 1997 free kick.

The square shaped camera module is bringing 48 MP main camera with high aperture of f/1.79 and 0.8 um pixels and 13 MP ultra wide camera sensor with 1.23 um pixel size and 123 degrees of field view. camera will be able to record 360 video sound thanks to OZO spatial audio capture and shots should be super steady thanks to Action mode which can capture the action at 60fps, and with the new SpeedWarp mode for fast movements.

There is a lot of similarities between Nokia X20 and Nokia XR 20 since the design language has the same roots, but XR20 has its specificities. There is customisable top button, military grade certified body, and we are seeing square shaped camera module. But the screen size, the body shape and some internals are the same. Some specs are making this phone desirable more than X20, like wireless charging, sturdy Gorilla Victus glass on front which only the best in class phones are getting, stereo speakers, wireless charging and barometer. But, all that comes at a price.

Nokia XR 20 will be available right after the announcement at some markets, which is commendable. The device will come in Ultra Blue and Granite colour options for £399 (4/64GB) and £449 (6/128GB) in the UK for example. Global average price should be set around 499 EUR.
