Nokia Mobile: #Nokia 3, 5 & 6 are IP52 certified

It turns out Nokia Mobile’s Twitter page is a real gem in terms of information about the new Nokia smartphones. The team behind gives its best to answer each and every question from potential customers, and thanks to one question we found out that Nokia 3, 5 and 6 are IP52 certified.

Having an IP52 certificate means that the device is:

  • Protected from limited dust ingress
  • Protected from water spray less than 15 degrees from vertical.

We assume HMD didn’t mention this because the phones are not fully water and dust proof, but only are more resistant to dust and water spray than the phones without the certificate. Saying the phones are water and dust proof, but with a note on the bottom saying it’s “only” IP52 could be misleading to customers. However, mentioning IP52 certificate in the specs sheet wouldn’t harm.
