Ex-OnePlus Executive Adam Ferguson joins Nokia Mobile as Head of Product Marketing

Former OnePlus Head of Marketing for Europe, Adam Ferguson, joins HMD Global as the Head of Product Marketing. Ferguson will be working closely with Stephen Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer for HMD Global, to develop a long-term growth strategy for Nokia Mobile’s full portfolio of Nokia phones. Both positions were recently filled in.

Ferguson will be responsible for all aspects of marketing, from positioning a product, to PR and digital marketing. His appointment will help Nokia Mobile to maximize and enhance consumer reach, engagement, and satisfaction with Nokia products and services.

“As a mobile enthusiast, I’m delighted to be joining HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones. There aren’t many devices that captivate audiences and evoke such loyalty as Nokia phones do,” said Ferguson in a press release.

“I look forward to doing this legacy justice and helping bring fans of the brand what they’ve come to expect – the best in quality design and the latest technology at an accessible price point.”

Ferguson came in at the time of pandemic which affected many businesses worldwide. In fact, Nokia Mobile suffered a large drop in shipment for Q1 2020, continuing its steady decline since Q2 2019. This year, the company only managed to ship 1.7 million Nokia smartphones in the first three months — about 45% drop from its shipment in Q1 2019.

With COVID-19 disrupting the supply chain for the company’s latest releases, the Nokia 5.3 and Nokia 8.3 5G, it would be exciting to see how the Ferguson/Taylor combo works the brand out of the economic crisis.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with Adam in his new role and am confident the team will have much to learn from his experience,” Taylor writes.

“He is a truly brand-minded marketing leader with broad experience in global blue-chip FMCG, telco, and consumer tech businesses that will no doubt help propel our product marketing strategy into new and exciting directions.”

Adam Ferguson isn’t new to marketing positions. A simple search of his LinkedIn profile will tell you his past endeavors. He also held marketing positions at bigger brand names such as EE, Nestlé, and Unilever before. More recently, he dropped his Head of Marketing position at OnePlus Europe for Nokia Mobile.

Thanks, Viccky for the tip. 😉
