Video: Nokia 5 (2017) internal Android 9 Pie build comes with the Pro Camera mode; Will it be available for all Nokia phones?
|Well-known member of the Nokia (and Microsoft) community Hikari Calyx managed to install the first installable internal Android 9 Pie build on the Nokia 5 (2017). The Android 9 Pie build comes from HMD’s manufacturing partner’s (FIH Mobile) servers. It’s interesting to note that the build features the “Pro Mode” in the camera app, which was until this week exclusive to Nokia phones with ZEISS optics.
Due to popular demand, as HMD’s CPO Juho Sarvikas said on Twitter, HMD made the “Pro Camera” mode available for the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus. Seeing the “Pro mode” in internal Android 9 Pie builds for Nokia 5 (2017), we could expect the feature to be available for other non-ZEISS Nokia phones, apart the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus.
The “Pro UI” originates from Nokia’s camera app for Nokia Lumia devices running Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS. In the beginning, the Pro UI was available for higher end phones from the 9xx series, and it was later released to all devices. Practically, every Lumia phone in every price class had the best camera and camera app on the market, which was a big selling point.
Bringing Pro mode to more phones is good for all users that purchased the non-ZEISS phones, but I’m afraid that just like Windows Phone, the lower end and lower midrange phones might become more attractive than higher end phones from Nokia, because of attractive features coming to the bottom line. The situation is a bit different in the Android world, where Chinese players sell aggressively priced midrange and low end devices, so making the camera app available for all Nokia phones might help there.
Anyways, the only thing we officially know for now is that the camera app with Pro mode is available for phones with ZEISS optics and Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus. We will have to wait for HMD to officially release Android 9 Pie for other non-ZEISS phones to see if the Pro mode will come to more devices.
What do you think? Should Pro Mode be available for all phones or should such features be reserved for the pricier models? 🙂
