Nokia smartphone marketshare in Europe halved in Q1 2021 compared to Q1 2020, as market starts to recover
|Market research company Counterpoint Research released interesting details about the European smartphone market in the first quarter of 2021. The market saw a rebound in Q1 with increase in smartphone shipments, but the only European top smartphone maker continued to struggle on home territory.
The European smartphone market saw a 6% increase in shipments in Q1 2021 compared to the first quarter of 2020. Samsung remained the leader with 32% marketshare, followed by Apple at 28%, Xiaomi at 18%, Oppo at 6%, and Huawei at just 2%, which is the same marketshare for Realme and Honor, that was split from Huawei as the struggling giant sold the Honor divison. Huawei’s decline on an yearly level was 77%, which brings back some of the bad memories from Symbian’s quick demise once the Burning Memo was out.
Anyways, the vendors that were able to capitalise Huawei’s decline are basically everyone in top 8, with Realme leading with a 183% growth, followed by OnePlus at 85%, Oppo at 94%, and Xiaomi by 73%. Both Samsung and Apple had also good quarters in Europe, with a yearly growth of 13% and 31%.
The maker of Nokia smartphones continued to struggle on the European market, and captured less than 2% of marketshare, which is half of the shipments made in the same quarter last year. The European marketplace is getting more competitive with BBK brands making more efforts to win customers and Xiaomi continuing to be the go to option for Android lovers on budget.
Maybe the recently announced new series of Nokia smartphones will help Nokia Mobile rebound, but we will have to wait and see.
