Nokia Mobile UK survey shows users concerned about security, but reluctant to update their devices

Nokia Mobile conducted a survey on 2000 consumers in the United Kingdom about the use of mobile phones. As lep.co.uk reports, British consumers change their phones on average every 19 months, while 10% reported problems with their devices in the first 6 months.

The reasons for worse performance according to the survey are less reliable battery, no available memory and the phone overall getting slower. It’s interesting that 63% of the surveyed have a lack of trust in their manufacturer, while 28% said that vendors are intentionally slowing down phones after 12 months.

In terms of security updates and updates in general, 43% users choose not to update their device because of concerns of the device getting slowed down. 58% of the users are worried about security, but almost 3 out of 4 users admitted that they are not informed well enough about the importance of security updates.

To protect your data, regularly installing security updates is the easiest thing to do. Other good practises are unique passwords, 2-factor authentications, password managers, while maybe the least advised thing to do is to install an anti-virus program on your device. Also, this survey is conducted in the UK, so applying conclusions from it on a bigger scale wouldn’t be 100% correct, even though I think that most users on the planet don’t trust their phone or OS manufacturer.
