Nokia to get dynamic themes with Android 12

Among all the changes Android 12 is bringing, Material You themes is probably the most expected. This theming option will finally bring dynamic theming to Android devices. users will be able to  control colors of some interface elements across the OS. The colouring scheme will be based on the current wallpaper set at the device, something similar Windows Phone had in 2012 or what Sailfish is using now.

Currently the theming system code named Monet is available exclusively to Google Pixel phones. It seems that Google won’t be keeping this feature just for its Pixel phones since Monet is added to AOSP, or the open-source repository. This signals Google’s intention to let other manufacturers use this feature.

A new code in Google’s Material Components library has been revealed by MishaalRahman, titled “Add supporting manufacturer list of dynamic colors,” which reveals that Google is indeed willing to share dynamic themes to other Android using brands, and Nokia among them. The supported manufacturers will be realme, One Plus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Motorola, OPPO, HMD Global Nokia, Sharp, Sony, TCL, Lenovo, Google, Roboelectric, Itel, Tecno Mobile, and Infinix.

It still remains to see if the listed manufacturers will get the same algorithms for creating UI colors based on the most dominant color of the current desktop wallpaper as in Pixels. Anyways, this options is welcomed since it will bring something users has been wanting for a while now.
