Nokia Mobile answers questions about updates on the Community forum

Whenever Nokia Mobile releases a software update for any of its phones, users have many questions on their minds about the availability of the update for their devices. For example, users were curious when their Nokia 9 PureView did not receive the Android 10 update in many markets even after 4 months from the first release date, which prompted Nokia Mobile to investigate it.

So, to clear all at once, Nokia staff member HMDLaura on the community forum just answered the frequently asked questions (FAQs) on approved markets and waves of markets on which devices get the update. The questions have been answered very nicely and in a detailed way.

Summed up explanations follow down below:

  • First of all, “Waves” is the term that they use to denote when each OTA (over-the-air) is enabled.
  • They usually have two Waves, which are normally apart by a couple of weeks, although they can release updates in between Wave 1 and Wave 2 if they get the approvals.
  • Wave 1 has the markets where approval has been given while, Wave 2 has the markets where approval has not been given yet.
  • Within each Wave, the OTA roll-out is dispatched over several days, usually 5 days for a smooth proceeding, which means all users may not receive the update at the same time in the same country.
  • The software in each market is released only when each region/network operator approves it.
  • If your country/network operator is in the approved list and if the update does not arrive even after more than 5 days of release, then you can always check for it manually by going into Settings.
  • An update can also get delayed for some markets/network operators if any specific need has not yet been integrated.

Also, Nokia Mobile now includes details about the markets present in each wave of the upgrade process as they did for the Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 4.2. This kind of response from Nokia Mobile always helps users to clear their doubts.
