The KaiOS conundrum

One of the most divisive aspects about Nokia Mobile’s featurephone efforts so far has to be KaiOS, and my experience with it has been a mixed bag. On the 8110, I was left feeling disappointed with the overall performance of the phone, especially once memory filled up and the issue was exaggerated if you decided to add an SD card slot into the mix. In terms of features, I think it covers the basics quite well, and the smart features are more than welcome, but that all doesn’t mean much if the overall experience was frustrating. It’s even more confusing when you consider smartphone operating systems of the past that utilized a similar form factor with a fraction with much slower hardware ran so much better, and while they weren’t as modern, they were very capable for their time period. KaiOS was a limiting factor for the very cool hardware on the 8110.

Moving to the 2720 Flip, and now the 8000 4G, and things seem a bit better. The latter especially is much faster at doing everything than on the 8110, but how well will it hold up against the test of time is something I can’t answer at the moment. If you do have the device or have used the 2720 for extended periods of time, please share your experiences below. I can’t help but feel like KaiOS hasn’t reached its full potential, and had a rough start. Perhaps with KaiOS 3.0 this page will be turned?
