Nokia will digitize and automate Finland’s national power grid
|While Nokia is most known for its mobile phones and networking infrastructure, lately Finns started investing more in software that can be used for many purposes. The development of software allowed Nokia to use its networking infrastructure in different ways. Because of that Nokia got the job of transforming Finland’s national power grid by digitizing and automating the management process. This way Finland will be able to incorporate the energy coming from renewable sources such as solar, wind, and micro-generation from bioenergy. Nokia will be using its mission-critical IP/MPLS network to make this happen. Through that network operators will be able to operate and control 120 high-voltage substations and 14,600km of power transmission across the country.
Nokia is once again working with the government, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t be working together since the Finnish government is owning around 3% of Nokia shares.
