Bootloader unlock server for Nokia 8 has been down for days
|Nokia Mobile’s jump on board to Android One program has been well-received by a number of people that don’t want vendors to interfere in “Pure Android”. However, its controversial bootloader unlock policy made it difficult for tinkerers to fully support the Nokia brand. Nokia Mobile took a long time to setup an official method to unlock the bootloader.
Back in 2018, Nokia Mobile published an official method to unlock bootloader of the Nokia 8 – the only Nokia phone that allows this so far.
Now, members of the XDA Developers forum and r/Nokia subreddit reported that the server for the bootloader unlock of the Nokia 8 has been down for days. The unlocker app is said to fail to communicate with token generator server once the user initiate the unlock process.
We won’t go into detail with the technicalities and stuff, but it seems like Nokia Mobile may have officially closed down the server for the bootloader unlock on the Nokia 8. XDA also reports that even the popular NB1- Collision bootloader method by XDA Senior Member hikari_calyx for the first-generation Nokia devices has stopped functioning as well.
Fortunately, the existing unlock token received via email can still be reused by Nokia 8 users in the future – the only bit of good news here.
