Nokia 9 PV won’t be getting Android 11
|The Nokia 9 Pureview is Nokia’s flagship phone of 2019 and the only Android 11 ready Nokia smartphone still waiting for its final OS update. Nokia Mobile was planning to release the update in Q3 2021, but it seems that the update for this unique device has been cancelled. The Polish Nokia Phones website says that the update will not be released due to incompatibilities between the Nokia 9 PV’s Penta camera setup and the software. The incompatibilities are such that the user experience would be significantly reduced, which is contrary to the standards Nokia is aiming for. The website also states that there will be no change in security updates for the 9PV.
The Polish team is aware of the importance of the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone and is offering a 50% discount on the Nokia XR20 smartphone or any other X-series device to owners of the 9PV who want to use Android 11.
While I understand that the Penta camera system might be a problem for the future OS updates, as it is a unique product in the market that requires special knowledge and a high number of sold and used devices. It’s definitely sad that the Nokia 9 PureView is not getting what was promised. At least this problem could have been communicated earlier or in a more open way. I recommend the X20 if you want a good camera experience, and if you want a good and durable phone, go for the XR20.
