Nokia Mobile providing temporary fix for the overnight charging issue
|I usually get through the day on a single overnight battery charge. I have been charging phones overnight since I started using them over 20 years ago, and if the battery is OK, you should have about 30% left when you go to bed with medium phone usage. If you are a power smartphone user, there’s a good chance you’ll need to recharge the battery in the afternoon.
Anyway, after the Nokia 8.3 5G, I started testing the Nokia XR20 and strangely became addicted to that phone, which I still use today. But about 6 months ago, I started having problems with the battery and my XR20 battery was completely dead by 5:00 pm. Since the phone is full of photos, videos and apps that take a lot of time to set up, I was too lazy to do a hard reset to see if that would solve the problem. I charged the XR20 with Huawei’s 40W fast charger, thinking that I might have broken the battery, but other phones did not have this problem, so I ruled it out. The latest Android 12 build released for XR20 in July pretty much solved the battery problem, although it still drains quicker than it used to on Android 11.
It appears that there is a software issue causing the battery problem, and Nokia Mobile has finally identified it and sent a message via the MyPhone app to XR20 users about the problem. Apparently, there is a software bug that drains the battery faster if you charge the phone overnight and leave it plugged into the charger for a long time after it has been fully charged. Nokia Mobile is working on a solution to the problem, but holding down the power button for 20 seconds (soft reset) should fix the issue if it occurs.
I don’t know if the challenge I mentioned above is the one that other users are experiencing, but kudos to Nokia Mobile for notifying phone users of the phone for this problem and offering a temporary fix until the build update arrives. I appreciate the openness of the team and the way they informed us about this issue. This is also a good way to use the rather useless myPhone app, and it would also be nice to get a software update log via the MyPhone app in the future so we know what the new build update brings.
I also wanted to say that XR20 is doing rather fine and I’m satisfied with how the device is performing, except that battery problems. It is also capable of making nice underwater shots even from a distance (by the way, that is not my dad nor dead body in the photo, hehe).
