Nokia wins patent fight against Lenovo in Germany and can ask for ban of products there
|Specialised site covering legal battles in the tech sector FossPatents reports that Nokia won an injunction against Lenovo in Germany that can be enforced against a collateral of 3.25 million euro, meaning that Nokia can ban and retract Lenovo products in Germany.
Nokia started fighting Lenovo a year ago, claiming the Chinese tech giant is infringing over 20 patents related to H.264 video codec and that Lenovo refuses to negotiate in good faith for a license. The recent news about Nokia’s win in Germany means that Nokia can ask the German authorities to ban sales of Lenovo products that infringe Nokia’s patents against a small security amount of just 3.25 million euro. In comparison, in Nokia’s legal battle with Daimler the collateral for Daimler products ban in Germany was set to 7 billion euro.
In any case, we will have to see if Nokia will enforce the injunction or some deal will be made.
