Rumor: Nokia X60 with Huawei’s Harmony OS, 200 MP camera, and 144 Hz refresh rate display in plans *UPDATED*
|Right from its inception, Nokia Mobile has remained committed to Google’s Android OS without adding much to the UI from its own side in the Nokia smartphones, except for the Chinese market. Since Google services are not operational in China, the smartphones usually feature a different UI and a different set of apps compared to the international version.
However, after FIH Mobile denied working on Nokia smartphones since 2019, Nokia Mobile refrained from launching smartphones in China. The company did make a comeback with affordable smartphones, but is yet to bring any high-end device. It is possibly due to the lack of a UI that can support such high-end devices. The situation might change later this year.
Earlier in the day, a few reports about Nokia smartphones, tagging the Taiwanese media, started doing rounds in China. The reports claim that Nokia Mobile is looking to integrate Huawei’s HarmonyOS 2 into its smartphones. Additionally, a series of Nokia X60 smartphones, including Nokia X60 and Nokia X60 Pro, might be the first in the portfolio to come with the OS. The reports also suggest that Nokia X60 will sport a 200 MP rear camera, a high-spec curved display with up to 144 Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a big 6000 mAh battery.
To be frank, the specifications mentioned in the reports add very little to the credibility of the claims. Although, the partnership with Huawei for its HarmonyOS 2 could prove fruitful for Nokia Mobile if it ever happens. Given that Google is one of the investors in HMD Global, it is likely that the Huawei partnership will be confined only to China. In other markets, Nokia smartphones will continue to use the Android OS.
For the uninitiated, the development of the HarmonyOS 2, particularly the version for smartphones, was paced up after the US restricted Huawei from working with Google. It was officially launched on June 2 with an upgrade set to be released for nearly 100 Huawei devices in China. As a home-grown product, the HarmonyOS 2 has already gained traction in the country. There were also reports of other brands like OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi engaging with Huawei for launching phones based on HarmonyOS 2.
Anyhow, take these claims as rumors until we get any concrete information. Do share your thoughts in the comments section below.
